Sustainable Wall Materials for LEED Commercial Interiors
By Roos International · · 2 min read

Wall surfaces that help commercial interiors toward LEED: recycled PET felt, recycled leather, low-emission laminates, and repaintable glass wallcoverings, with the documents to ask for.
Wall surfaces can help a project toward LEED certification in a few ways: recycled or renewable content, low emissions for indoor air, and published documents that show what a product is made of and its environmental impact. Which ones count depends on the LEED version your project uses. This guide lists the wall materials Roos International supplies and the facts and documents each one brings.
How LEED treats materials
Current LEED v4 and v4.1 projects earn most material credits through disclosure and low emissions: Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), ingredient disclosures such as Health Product Declarations (HPDs) or Declare labels, and low-emitting material test results. Older LEED 2009 projects counted recycled content and rapidly renewable materials directly. Your LEED consultant decides which credits a product supports, so ask each supplier for the documents, not just a "LEED" label.
Recycled PET felt: Ezobord
Ezobord acoustic panels are 100% polyester felt with at least 60% recycled content from plastic water bottles. Ezobord publishes an Environmental Product Declaration, a Health Product Declaration, a Declare label, and VOC test data, and reports no VOCs (CDPH v1.2 and REACH SVHC compliant). Panels are ASTM E84 Class A and made in regional plants across North America. Ezobord states the material contributes to LEED MR and BREEAM credits.
Recycled and reclaimed leather: EcoDomo
- EcoDomo Recycled Leather Veneer is made from full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather fibers bound with natural latex. EcoDomo lists it for LEED recycled content (pre-consumer), low-emitting materials, and rapidly renewable materials under the older LEED credit names.
- EcoDomo Milano hide leather tiles are listed for low-emitting materials, a low-VOC water-based adhesive, and rapidly renewable material, and are ASTM E84 Class A.
- EcoDomo Phoenix panels are made from repurposed leather belts, sorted and assembled by hand.
Low-emission laminates and panels
- Lab Designs high-pressure laminate held GREENGUARD and GREENGUARD Gold certification (UL 2818, tested to CDPH v1.2) from December 2020 to July 2025, according to the certificates Lab Designs publishes. Ask for a current certificate.
- Interlam Forescolor through-colored fiberboard is available with FSC and CARB ULEF / Phase 2 certifications.
- ATI MirroFlex EccoFlex finishes are made with 40% pre-consumer recycled material.
- Akupanel Pro acoustic panels use a recycled PET felt backer behind the wood slats.
Glass textile wallcoverings: Texturglas and Novelio
Texturglas and Novelio woven glass wallcoverings are made from silica sand, lime, and clay, and both state they qualify for LEED green building credits. Their longest-lasting benefit is that you repaint them instead of replacing them, so a renovation does not send old wallcovering to landfill. Novelio Acoustiver is PVC-free and breathable.
What to ask for
- The EPD, HPD or Declare label, and VOC or emissions test reports for the exact product.
- Recycled content as a percentage, and whether it is pre-consumer or post-consumer.
- Certifications with their certificate numbers (GREENGUARD, FSC, CARB).
- The fire rating, since sustainable materials still have to meet the building code.
