How to Install Texturglas Glass Fiber Wallcovering
By Roos International · · 2 min read

Wall preparation, hanging, seams, corners, and painting for Texturglas glass fiber wallcoverings and the GV45/GV250 Wall Restoration System.
Texturglas is a wall finish system: adhesive, a glass fiber wallcovering, and paint. It hangs like wallcovering with a paste-the-wall, dry-hang method, and then it is painted. This guide summarizes the Texturglas installation guidelines for the Architectural and Designer collections and the Wall Restoration System.
Tools and materials
- 3/4 to 1 in. nap roller for adhesive and paint
- Plastic smoother or broad knife, paint brush, sharp razor knife with fresh blades, straight edge, tape measure
- Heavy-duty clear adhesive (strippable later) or VOV adhesive (permanent)
- Latex primer and finish paint. Latex keeps the wall breathable; epoxy gives the hardest-wearing surface
Rolls are 39.4 in. (1 m) wide in 16, 32, and 54 yard lengths. Edges are pre-trimmed for butt seams. Never use a seam roller.
Prepare the wall
- Remove switch plates and surface fixtures.
- Clean off dust, grease, and stains. Treat any mildew; in humid areas you can add an antimicrobial to the adhesive and paint.
- Check moisture with a meter: no more than 5%. New plaster needs at least 30 days to cure.
- Tape and spackle new drywall smooth. Prime glossy or non-porous surfaces (tile, laminate, glossy paint) with a bonding primer.
- Remove old wallpaper or vinyl first, and replace any loose plaster.
Hang the wallcovering
- Hang three full mock-up panels of each pattern and approve them before continuing.
- Roll adhesive onto the wall, only enough for one or two lengths at a time.
- Hang each length plumb, outside face of the roll facing out, in the order it was cut. Smooth from the center out with a plastic knife.
- Butt the seams tight and match the texture at eye level. Double-cut where edges are rough. Wipe adhesive off seams right away with a damp sponge.
- Wrap outside corners by at least 2 in.; double-cut inside corners. Trim with a fresh blade.
Paint
Let the wallcovering dry fully at room temperature. TG patterns need a coat of latex primer and then one or two finish coats. TGP patterns come pre-primed and take one or two finish coats. Back-roll if you spray. When the wall needs refreshing later, repaint over the texture without removing it.
Wall Restoration System (GV45, GV250)
The restoration mat is a non-woven glass fiber mat for cracked plaster walls and ceilings. Hang it the same way, butt-joined or overlapped 2 to 4 in. and double-cut, then prime with latex primer and paint. Used as a liner under another wallcovering, hang it horizontally so its seams don't line up with the wallcovering seams. GV45 rolls cover 538 sq ft; GV250 rolls cover 156 sq ft.
