Akupanel 1x0.25 is a linear wood-veneer acoustic panel developed for interiors that need both natural material character and practical sound absorption. A real wood veneer face is applied to black-through colored MDF strips, which are fastened from the back to a black PET polyester-fiber layer. The dark core and backing create a consistent shadow line between the narrow slats, while the veneer introduces the authentic variation of natural wood.
The panel is intended for architectural millwork, feature walls, ceilings and other interior surfaces where reflected sound and reverberation can make a space feel harsh or difficult to use. The product specification reports an absorption coefficient of 0.52 at 1,000 Hz. Acoustic results in a completed room will also depend on installation method, mounting depth, surface area, room geometry and surrounding materials, so project-specific performance requirements should be reviewed with the design and acoustical teams.
The nominal panel size is 24" x 96" x 13/16". The specification drawing identifies an approximate actual panel width of 23.580 inches and a 96-inch length. Each MDF strip is approximately 11 mm thick and 1.06 inches wide, with approximately 0.25 inch spacing between strips. The slats are attached by staples from the back to a 9 mm black-dyed PET polyester-fiber backer.
This layered construction combines three visually and functionally distinct materials: a genuine wood veneer surface, a black-through MDF slat core and a black PET acoustic backing. The narrow linear geometry produces a refined architectural rhythm suitable for hospitality, workplace, residential, retail and public interiors. Four veneer selections are represented in this catalog item: Brown Oak, Gray Oak, Gray Recon and Natural Oak.
The supplied specification lists a Flame Spread Index of 0 and Smoke Developed Index of 350 for the PET backer. It lists a Flame Spread Index of 15 and Smoke Developed Index of 5 for the black-through colored MDF. The document notes that Class A criteria cover a flame-spread range of 0-20 and a smoke-developed range of 0-450. These values describe the stated core materials; the project team should confirm the required assembly testing, code documentation and installation conditions for the specific jurisdiction and application.
Akupanel 1x0.25 may be installed on walls or ceilings. For direct applications, the specification recommends furring strips installed perpendicular to the Akupanel at 600 mm centers. The panel can then be fastened with screws placed between the wood strips and driven through the PET backing into the framing or studs. A minimum of 15 screws per panel is recommended. Black-anodized screws provide the least conspicuous appearance within the dark reveal, and a small bead of construction adhesive may also be applied to the furring strips where appropriate.
Ceiling installations may also be configured by cutting the material to suit a suspended ceiling grid, similar to a conventional drop-ceiling system. Full panel lengths may be suspended using threaded eyebolts and aircraft cable when the supporting design and project conditions allow. Final fastening, suspension and substrate decisions should be coordinated with the project's architect, engineer, installer and applicable code requirements.
Because the face is genuine wood veneer, variation in color, grain, texture and figure is expected. End-to-end veneer matching and continuous alignment from panel to panel cannot be guaranteed. For multi-panel elevations, designers should plan for natural transitions and may incorporate frames, reveals, trim or intentional breaks to create a controlled composition.
Akupanel 1x0.25 is suited to feature walls, reception areas, meeting rooms, offices, restaurants, hospitality spaces, media rooms, home theaters, retail environments, corridors and ceiling features. Its narrow slat profile provides strong linear definition without the visual mass of a thick solid-wood assembly. The result is a lightweight architectural surface that pairs the warmth of natural veneer with an acoustic PET layer designed to help moderate reverberation.
This product is part of the Akupanel 1x0.25 collection from Akupanel Pro, manufactured and shipped by Interlam.
